Deafness Support Network (DSN) has teamed up the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund (ESF) to help D/deaf people in Cheshire secure employment. In a bid to extend their offering, DSN are now partnering with New Leaf, a project which offers free support and training to individuals seeking employment, volunteering opportunities, financial advice and life skills.
Over the next three years, the New Leaf project aims to support a minimum of 2,800 residents across Cheshire closer or into employment. It is designed to boost confidence and unlock potential by providing training, developing skills and giving opportunities to improve personal aspirations.
New Leaf brings together a diverse range of 30 partners from across Warrington and Cheshire, including Local Authorities, learning providers, charities, social landlords, disability support networks to change lives, create opportunities and make a positive contribution to the local communities and the regional economy
How it works
New Leaf will help those in greatest need and farthest from work. The project will also benefit local economies through local investment and supporting economic activity. All clients will have their own professional mentor, trained to build positive relationships focused on client’s needs and strengths. Bespoke programmes will support clients to explore and identify personal barriers to enable them to achieve agreed goals, re-engage with mainstream services, and ultimately maintain employment. This is George’s story
George was referred to the New Leaf programme via an initial interview with DSN’s New Leaf coordinator Brian Cadwallader at Chester Deaf Club. He began his journey by working with his personal mentor Helen Barrie and successfully completed a work placement at local farm café in Ellesmere Port. George enjoyed his time there so much, that he still continues to help out, knowing that it is providing him with vital work experience to add to his CV. The staff at the café have been extremely supportive and welcoming and were very impressed with his work ethic. Read more
