DSN to raise a mug for Dementia UK ahead of Time for a Cuppa week
The Deafness Support Network’s (DSN) next You, Me & Tea event will acknowledge the work of Dementia UK ahead of the charity’s ‘Time for a Cuppa’ awareness event.
Time for a Cuppa will take place from 1st – 8th March and will see Dementia UK raising both awareness and funds for specialist Admiral dementia nurses.
Its work is close to the hearts of DSN, the creators of You, Me & Tea, who devised the regular meet-ups throughout Cheshire as an event for those experiencing deafness and dementia to come and find support, advice and good company.
“Obviously You, Me & Tea is a regular event we hold across the county,” said DSN PhD student Jenna Littlejohn, one of the brains behind You, Me & Tea.
“But it is really important to do everything we can to raise awareness of dementia and, from our perspective, those with dementia who are also deaf. These Individuals have the added challenges to overcome around communication, loneliness, mobility and social interaction.
“Initiatives like You, Me & Tea and Time for a Cuppa can, at a local and national level, complement each other in increasing public understanding. They can provide a social support network and professional advice service for individuals who still have a love for life, but who need specialist assistance to enjoy it to its fullest.”
The next You, Me & Tea event will take place on Tuesday the 28th of February at Deafness Support Network, 144 London Road, Northwich from 11am until 1:30pm.
