Deafness Support Network are running a new project with Microsoft and UKYouth from March-August 2014 focusing on developing young people’s ‘Digital Literacy’.
What will the children and young people learn?
They will learn about how to use the internet safely, to protect themselves whilst using social network sites, useful programs that support learning and how to better access fun resources like the X Box and other similar gaming equipment.
Who will be there?
As well as Youth Service staff and volunteers, 3 IT Champions have been selected from our youth clubs, they will play a big part of the project and they will offer training and support to their peers. The young people will also be able to tell Microsoft what they think of their products and help improve how the information is given to other D/deaf young people across the UK.
An IT specialist will also be available and the young people will be able to work with them to create their own videos and resources with hints and tips to get the best use out of all of the tools.
When will the Project run?
The project will run on Wednesday afternoons 4-6pm on the first Wednesday of every month at Chester Deaf Club. We will also have a mobile HUB of laptops and other equipment that will be available at all of our youth clubs once a month.
What else will be happening during the project?
We will also do some other fun things like playing on the X Box and video conferencing with other Deaf Clubs.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want any further information about how to get involved!
