Talking Buses Campaign

05/01/2011
The Spinal Injuries Association has joined Guide Dogs' 'Talking Buses' campaign in calling for the introduction of audio-visual passenger information systems on all buses and coaches used on both local and scheduled services.

This will enable all disabled people – including those with sensory, physical and learning disabilities – to use the local bus services independently and with confidence.

Current accessibility regulations for buses and coaches require new vehicles used on local and scheduled services to meet certain accessibility requirements.  However these regulations do not include a requirement for the installation of audio-visual information systems.

Audio-visual systems are already required on all new trains and trams, dramatically improving travel for disabled people and many other passengers.
