Sign Language App will help D/deaf.
An article appeared in The Times www.timesonline.co.uk on Monday 12th April 2012 stating an app that can translate sign language into text is being developed.  Users will be able to sign into a camera on their smartphone or computer and the software will turn their words into written text.

Researchers at the University of Aberdeen hope that their work will help young D/deaf people to find work.  Dr Ernesto Compatangelo, a lecturer in computing science, said: "The aim is to empower sign language users by enabling them to overcome the challenges they can experience."

The research has been funded by the Department for Business.  The app is expected next year.
